In 2025, a network of European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) was launched in Ukraine. Each hub has its own profile, team, and focus on specific regions or sectors.
CentralUkraineEDIH is one such hub. It unites the expertise of leading scientific institutions and business partners to help small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) implement innovations, test technologies, and enhance digital maturity.
CentralUkraineEDIH promotes the development of digital and innovation ecosystems across central Ukrainian regions — including Poltava, Dnipro, Kropyvnytskyi, Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Kyiv, Chernihiv, Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Odesa, and Mykolaiv oblasts. CentralUkraineEDIH focuses on several strategic priorities:
Supporting the digital and green transformation of central Ukrainian regions through the development of interactive GIS-based maps
Providing consulting services for SMEs and local governments
Conducting digital and technical assessments of products, technologies, projects, and business models
Offering expert support
Training SME and local government personnel to develop modern digital competencies
Why was the hub created?
Today, Ukraine is in urgent need of a robust digital and innovation ecosystem to drive the large-scale digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises and public sector institutions. However, even the most progressive teams face a number of systemic and practical challenges, including:
Limited resources to assess digital maturity
Lack of awareness and expertise in modern technologies (AI, Big Data, IoT)
Difficulty finding international partners or funding opportunities
The need for quick, clear solutions tailored to the Ukrainian context
CentralUkraineEDIH was established in direct response to these needs, as an innovation-driven support hub that helps organizations move from assessing their current digital status to testing and implementing advanced solutions in real production environments.
The Team Behind the Hub
The hub operates as a consortium coordinated by the Institute of Physics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The core team includes six key partners:
Institute of Physics of the NAS of Ukraine
Dnipro University of Technology
Yuri Kondratyuk National Technical University “Poltava Polytechnic”
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine
Ukrainian Automotive and Mobility Cluster
IT Dnipro Community
There are also two associated partners — the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine and COMPARUS UA
Thanks to this diverse team and expertise, the hub can offer not only technological services but also tailored support with business modelling, securing funding, and scaling solutions.
How does the hub work with teams?
CentralUkraineEDIH follows a personalised approach to working with every client. Each business or organisation begins by undergoing a digital maturity assessment and needs analysis to identify growth areas. Based on this, the team receives tailored solutions and services to address specific challenges. For businesses, this means not just automation but full-scale digital transformation – from updating business models to entering international markets. SMEs and startups get support in testing ideas, accessing expertise, and attracting funding. Instead of offering generic answers, the hub’s experts co-create optimal transformation pathways with each team.
Access to infrastructure and innovation opportunities
The hub’s infrastructure offers practical support for teams working on high-tech solutions. Available resources include:
Innovative R&D platform EDS Ukraine – for projects in energy, electromobility, and charging infrastructure
Solar energy training facility – for training specialists in solar system installation and configuration
3D printing and polymer thermal processing lab – for prototyping, cooperation with employers, and implementing additive technologies
Thermal engineering lab – for fuel analysis, thermochemical processes, and energy auditor training
Spectroscopy lab – for material testing using IR and Raman spectroscopy
Non-destructive testing lab – for quality control, 3D scanning, and prototyping
Computer labs and classrooms – for IT, robotics, energy, and telecoms training, equipped with licensed software and high-speed internet
Achievements so far
In its first six months of operation, the CentralUkraineEDIH has launched a wide range of services to develop digital skills, attract investment, and foster international cooperation. The hub has brought together hundreds of representatives from business, startups, academia, and public institutions, providing them with access to the European innovation ecosystems of Digital Innovation Hubs.
